Motivation doesn’t last. That’s why I recommend you find something that motivates you daily. It could be something simple like a quote or a goal physique you found on Instagram. There are some tried and tested methods of staying motivated while you’re on the fitness wagon. If the results alone don’t keep you coming back for more and more then have a go at some of these helpful ways to stay motivated. It’s time to get back into the routine and shed those pounds that you’ve put on whilst sitting on the couch watching the last 6 seasons of Game of Thrones.
1- Try on clothes from last year
Here is the easiest way to get motivated. The pair of really nice jeans you bought 6 months ago are feeling a little tight, or even worse, don't even button up. If it’s the latter of the two, you need to come back to the gym straight away, let us not waste a minute, stop reading now! We know you love those jeans. Trying on clothes that used to fit to see if they feel the same is a sure fire way to motivate yourself about getting back into shape. You don’t want to throw away the designer outfit you spent so much money on.
Studies show that it can take up to 12 weeks for a person to notice a recognisable change in their body shape. At Christmas or your birthday week I’d guess this 12 weeks being reduced to as little as 4 weeks.
2 - Go to the gym with a friend or Partner
A training partner is a great way to overcome the motivational barrier. If the only person you will let down is yourself you’re more likely to allow yourself that guilty pleasure, but if you have a gym buddy who is there to motivate you, you will feel less inclined to letting them down.
Even better than a gym buddy would be to train with your partner. That way you know that your timings can be synced and that you won’t be late for dinner!
3 - Be Realistic
You don’t want to start the new found motivation in too much of a hurry. Don’t get me wrong, get excited, but not too excited. What I mean is don’t set out with an aim to go to the gym 5 days a week and then leave yourself feeling like a failure when you only make it 2 or 3 times. Start slow and build yourself into it. Aim for 2 or 3 days a week and then ease yourself into 4 and 5 days a week. If you aim too high the risk of failure is higher and that failure can put a real dampener on your motivation. You should set little goals and aim for lots of little wins
4 - Treat yourself to new gym clothing
Spending some of that hard earned money and getting yourself some new clothing can make all the difference. The right clothing can maximise the results you get by allowing you to perform at your best. Not only that, but it will also get you into the right frame of mind. Refresh your gym wardrobe and get back in the gym. When you look good, you feel good
5 - Keep your Exercise Routine Exciting
Chang up your training programme. Don’t just go to the gym and do the same 20min on the spin bike or treadmill. Keep it exciting my joining a class or creating your own full body weight circuit. Your body needs both kinds of exercise and not only will you feel the benefits sooner by mixing it up, it’s also something different and a little more exciting.
